Internationally acclaimed harpist Elinor Bennett is coming out of self-imposed retirement to give a series of performances featuring two historical harps.

Elinor, who was brought up in Llanuwchllyn, near Bala, will give music lovers an opportunity to listen to music from the 18th and early 19th centuries played on two harps, made in the same period.

The first performance is at Theatr Twm o'r Nant, Denbigh at 7.30pm on 18 June. Llais Hen Delynau/Voice of Old Harps, will feature music by Handel, blind harpist John Parry, Edward Jones (The King's Bard), Rosetti, Spohr and contemporaries, thanks to the generosity of the main sponsor, Pendine Park care organisation through the Pendine Arts and Community Trust (PACT), set up to supports arts and community events by Pendine Park proprietors, Mario Kreft MBE and his wife, Gill.

An eminent harpist was reunited with an old friend when she performed at a music-loving care home.

Virtuosa Elinor Bennett staged a mini concert at Pendine Park’s Bryn Seiont Newydd care home in Caernarfon as a thank you for the support they have given to Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias (William Mathias Music Centre) which she was instrumental in setting up.

Elinor said: “I’ve visited Bryn Seiont Newydd several times because it is only a short distance from my home in Bontnewydd and I am in awe of the work they do here with residents.

BBC: Zoom lessons help harpist Elinor Bennett teach 7,500 miles away in Patagonia

Harpist Elinor Bennett has harnessed the power of video calling to teach a pupil in Argentina during lockdown.

The musician is teaching Helen Green, 15, who lives 7,500 miles (12,000km) away in a Welsh-speaking community in Patagonia.

"The miracles of modern technology have been hugely beneficial during this difficult period," Elinor said.

She was put in contact with Helen - who lives in the area where Welsh settlers moved in the 19th Century - by a former student who grew up in Wales and moved to Patagonia to teach.
